A little more about moira…
Despite the quiet private setting, the development is in the heart of the village of Moira with the convenience that this brings.
Moira and Nearby Ashby de la Zouch form part of the civil parish of Ashby Wolds, Moira is a village that is proud of its rich industrial heritage, and Moira Furnace is a celebration of this history.
Moira is home to restored 19th century iron making blast furnace and museum, located adjacent to the tranquil Ashby canal, built in 1804, it had stopped making iron by 1811 and was then used for housing by the local collieries for the mine workers and their families.
There is an Ofsted-rated ‘good’ primary school*, and local groups such as the Moira Football Club and the Scouts, which runs from the village hall, offer a strong sense of community spirit.
There are plenty of things to do . you could visit Moira Furnace, take a walk long the Ashby canal and enjoy the great outdoors.
Moira is in the heart of the National Forest, take a stroll or even take a ride along the national cycle Trail. Since its conception over 20 years ago, when visionary leaders made the decision to create a new, large, forested area in England to show the many benefits that come from woodland near where people live and work, the National Forest has become a much-loved part of the landscape.
The National Forest’s award-winning Conkers visitor attraction is within Moira, providing a unique mix of indoor and outdoor experiences aimed at keeping families engaged for hours. From kata canoeing to bush craft survival, painting a pot to exploring the indoor Enchanted Forest play zone, Conkers is a truly exceptional experience for young and old alike.
The specially-created quiet, traffic-free paths of the National Cycle Network connect Moira to its beautiful surrounding villages and attractions. Despite its name, the Network isn’t just for cyclists, it’s also popular with walkers, joggers, wheelchair users and horse riders too.
Slightly further away but within easy access , Champneys Springs spa is only a 4 mile trip offering treatments and relaxation, while the National Trust property, Calke Abbey is hidden away in a hollow within an ancient park land, nine miles away – frozen in time and offering a fascinating history of its eccentric former owners, the Harpur-Crewe family. If golf’s your thing, Willesley Park Golf Club is in Ashby, while train enthusiasts can enjoy the Battlefield Line heritage railway from nearby Shackerstone. Plus the world-famous Twycross zoo is only 15 minutes away by car

With its 14-19 Academy, Ashby School, rated as ‘good’ overall in its most recent Ofsted inspection (at the time of printing. *for latest Ofsted report, see www.moira.leics.sch.uk ).
